DeKalb County is now home to one of Georgia Department of Health’s (GDPH) new COVID-19 PCR testing kiosks, which will offer access to COVID-19 testing 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

On Aug. 3, officials with the GDPH announced that 10 kiosks had been installed throughout Georgia. According to the GDPH website, after a registration form is completed, the kiosks dispense a test kit that includes a nasal swab, like other at-home tests, and instructions on collecting the specimen. Once the specimen is collected, it is repackaged into the kit and placed in the kiosk. The specimens are picked up daily and sent to an accredited lab for PCR testing. In many cases, individuals will receive notification of test results by email or text within 48 hours of specimen collection, stated officials.

While pre-registration is not required to use the kiosk, it is available online at https://register.testandgo.com/. Registration can be completed at the kiosk as well.

There is no out-of-pocket cost for the tests provided through a GDPH kiosk, but insurance will be billed for the test for patients who are insured, stated officials.

Minors 15 years of age or younger must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

The DeKalb County kiosk is located at the T. O. Vinson Health Center at 440 Winn Way in Decatur.

According to the GDPH website, the latest data shows that DeKalb County is listed as one of the top five counties in Georgia with positive COVID-19 cases.

“COVID-19 testing is one of many prevention measures, along with vaccination and booster doses, masking, and physical distancing, that protect you and others by reducing the chances of spreading COVID-19,” stated GDPH officials.

Those who test positive for COVID-19 should isolate at home for 10 days after symptoms begin or after testing positive to reduce the spread of the virus, according to the GDPH website.
